"You're all drugged up, sweetheart," says Mads' mother as she greets him with a kiss on the lips. This family breaks all moral - and legal - guidelines. 17-year-old Ida has to learn this the hard way after losing her mother in a car accident. She is taken in by her cousins, whom she hardly knows, in their new loving home. But soon boundaries become increasingly blurred and Ida finds herself torn between safety and the allure of her cousins' wild lifestyle. Led by the caring but disciplining matriarch, namely, criminal activities are perpetrated, which soon confronts Ida with a decision: Safety or wild life in the clan? Jeanette Nordahl's film is a compelling study of family and dysfunctionality, love and the complexity of desire. An intense film that goes deep and proves to be a brave and intelligent debut.
