Berlin, 1930s. Charlotte is a young rebellious woman who has a passion for painting from an early age. After leaving school at 16, on a trip to Rome, she discovers the vault painted by Michelangelo of the Sistine Chapel and has an epiphany. Back to Berlin, against the advice of her parents, she gets accepted to the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts despite being Jewish. Faced with the rise of Nazism, she is forced to flee to France, to Villefranche-sur-Mer, with her grandparents There, she devotes herself to painting without restraint and produces more than a thousand gouaches in two years.
