As soon as he arrives in Cagliari from Civitavecchia, Detective Giacomo Curreli is faced with two problems: the wary attitude taken towards him by his fellow officers at his new posting and a murder that no one seems to want to solve. The death of elderly Mrs. Marcucci is a very difficult case indeed, though less on account of the way in which the crime was committed, than because of the fact that the victim was related to the extremely powerful Mr. Crescioni. Currelis tenacity and unconventional methods allow him to dig beyond the appearances of the case and uncover the guilty party, though the solution turns out to be the least convenient for all involved.
