Two dreamers struggle to make ends meet as they pursue their passions in a city known for destroying hopes and breaking hearts. While MIA (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions, SEBASTIAN (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail piano gigs in dingy bars.

After a few chance meetings, sparks fly between Sebastian and Mia, who are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. A whirlwind romance ensues and they quickly move in together, their lives thoroughly intertwined as they feed off each other’s ambition, encouragement and burgeoning self-confidence. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.
