Ryosaku, a Chinese medicine doctor is determined to save his patients from smallpox but feels helpless in the face of the outbreak. One day, a Dutch medicine doctor informs Ryosaku that he might be able to cure smallpox using Dutch medicine. Ryosaku decides to seek the teachings of a Dutch doctor in Kyoto, Teisai Hino. While searching for a cure for smallpox, he learns of a method called vaccination. It is difficult to achieve because the seeds used for vaccination must be imported from abroad. Can he succeed in obtaining the seeds and spreading the smallpox vaccine successfully?
