Having graduated from architect school, Wu Xie (Lu Han) is fascinated with classic architecture and antiques. He was raised by his uncle, Wu Sanxing (Wang Jingchun), a renowned archeologist. For reasons unknown, Uncle Wu is determined to stop Xie from pursuing his interest, which leads to their estrangement.
When Uncle Wu goes missing, Xie finds a notebook that belonged to him. After discovering its secrets, Xie realises that his uncle was trying to protect him from what he might find in his research. Filled with regret, Xie decides he must find his uncle.
Xie teams up with his best friend Chubby Wang (Zhang Boyu), uncle Wu’s young friend Zhang Qiling (Jing Boran) and assistant Ning (Ma Sichun) and travels to The Heavenly Palace, the archeological site Uncle Wu last visited. The structure is the tomb of a Ming dynasty feng shui guru, Wang Canghai, and is filled with traps, beasts and the gruesome bodies of tomb robbers.
As the group ventures deeper and deeper into the vault, they learn that uncle Wu’s disappearance is connected to the massacre of his family 65 years earlier. Suddenly their mission appears to have become a whole lot more dangerous.
