It is towards the end of 1944 and a large number of banknotes suddenly fall from the sky littering impoverished towns in the mountains of western Sichuan. This unexpected windfall results in greed and deception gradually sweeping the province’s towns. The government plans to gather up the notes but some wealthy residents print counterfeits in order to deceive the government into giving them a reward for returning the cash. Wang Huaiyi (Nie) heads the team in search of the genuine notes which he is then to guard. Assisting him is Jiang Yanyan (Huang), who plans to infiltrate various groups who are secretly holding the cash. Meanwhile, Japanese bandits also have their eyes on the windfall.
