Spanning from the 1950s to the present day, each director presents a highly personal narrative inspired by childhood memories. A symphony of stories across the decades, Sammo Hung kicks off the anthology with Exercise recalling his childhood training in martial arts. Meanwhile, Ann Hui reflects on her schooldays in Headmaster, Patrick Tam’s Tender is the Night chronicles the joy and pain of first love and Yuen Woo Ping depicts generational differences in Homecoming. Johnnie To’s Bonanza follows three friends chasing easy fortunes whilst Astray sees the late Ringo Lam question the fast-changing landscape of the city. Finally, Tsui Hark ends the proceedings attempting to resolve conflict in the dark comedy Conversation In Depth.
