Suffering from chronic insomnia that makes him irritable and distant, Ganta Nakami (Okudaira) struggles to fit in at Kuyo High School. Assigned by his classmates to fetch a stepladder from the supposedly haunted observatory, he encounters Isaki Magari (Mori), a cheerful student suffering from the same nocturnal condition as himself. Having herself spread the rumour about the near-abandoned observatory, Isaki invites Ganta to share her haven where they can catch a nap. However, when a teacher (Sakurai) discovers the ruse, she’s unable to sanction its use. But if there was a new astronomy club…
