Log Line

The Polish II Corps is assigned to carry out a daring assault on the heavily fortified German Gustav Line around the Monte Cassino Monastery. After fierce Nazi counterattacks, and heavy losses, Allied troops spearheaded by the Polish Corps conquer the hill, open the road to Rome.

Synopsis

The race against time, the suspenseful process of planning the assault and the enormous weight of irreversible decisions made by the commanders of the II Corps make "Red Poppies" a cinema that leaves unforgettable emotions. We see the story of the battle through the eyes of Jędrek - a young boy who went through the Gulag hell and left Russia with the Anders Army as one of thousands of orphans. His time in captivity turned him from a boy from a good family into a combiner and petty thief who will do anything to survive. However, his encounter with the soldiers of the Second Corps and his awakening love for the nurse Pola will cause Jędrek to undergo a profound transformation. Soon, a decisive attack on a monastery defended by German troops located on the hills of Monte Cassino is about to take place at the front - this spectacular battle will decide the lives of many soldiers and the further attack of the Allied army in Italy, and will change Jedrek's life forever. In addition to Jędrek (Nicolas Przygoda) and Pola (Magdalena Żak), the film's heroes include a war correspondent (Leszek Lichota), who becomes a mentor to the rebellious teenager, and Jędrek's brother Stanislaw (Szymon Piotr Warszawski), an armored army officer whose unit plays a key role during the assault.
