Synopsis

MICHAEL (35) (Tyron Ricketts) is a bi racial Canadian/German physician who takes his family to the Canary Island of Lanzarote, mixing business with pleasure. After an argument with his wife he takes off on a sunset surfing session and gets caught in a rip tide that pulls him out to the sea. Michael must then negotiate his way on board a boat filled with African refugees that are hoping to make it into Europe illegally. Shortly before they reach Spanish shores, Coast Guards discover them and Michael is mistaken for one the refugees.

They are sent back into open waters and Michael finds himself drifting further away from his family and life as he knows it. After a tragic fire on the boat, Michael is left clinging for survival alongside his biggest opponent on the journey, the self-proclaimed and ruthless West African boat captain, Kingsley. Like Michael, KINGSLEY (32) survives the capsizing of his boat and they wash up on Moroccan shores not knowing that the worst is yet to come.

As Michael and Kingsley make their way from Europe into North Africa, they are kidnapped by Bedouin smugglers who take them to a torture camp in the desert, (to extract ransom money from their families). MICHAEL is then forced to help his capturers in the most heinous way imaginable for a doctor. Neither MICHAEL or KINGSLEY know if they can survive their terrible circumstances, but it will change them from enemies to friends. United in their humanity and by a burning desire to live, they will plot their escape with the hopes of finally making it home.
