Long ago, devils ran wild in East-land. Master Tang, once the second apprentice of Buddha Rulai, vowed to go to Leiyin Temple in the West to retrieve scriptures and cleanse East-land. Buddha Rulai instructed Bodhisattva Guanyin to assign four disciples—Sun Walker, Bajie, Wujing, and the White Dragon Horse—to protect and accompany Master Tang. Only after overcoming eighty-one challenges could they retrieve the scriptures and return home.
