Synopsis

In a succession of scenes with broken timeline (past, present and future mixed together), from Paris to New York and back, crossing the urban ambiances of streets, music of rock clubs and aesthetics of artists' studios, Encre de Chine tells the interminable quest of Aurore, a radio journalist, to find back her daughter Sou. Her Chinese father Ly, whom Aurore can no longer love, came to fetch her one day after leaving her Parisian school and he took her with him to the United States.

Despite her best efforts, Aurore will not find her. The only link that connects her to Sou is a letter Ly left her, drawn with a brush in ideograms, to explain to her his behaviour. But pictograms are impenetrable to her and, despite the translations she receives, its meaning remains an enigma to her.

Thirty years later, after Ly's death, Sou, now an adult, discovers the letter in her father's papers. She reads it and, back in Paris, knocks one evening at the door of Aurore. Like all odysseys, the journey ends with a return to the starting point. But time, in the meantime, has irreparably fled...
