After a turning point in her life, Kerstin (Christina Grosse) returns to the place of her childhood. She puts a red GDR kayak into the water and begins a journey across the Mecklenburg Lake District. Between tourism and dreariness, the kayak becomes a protective capsule for her - until one day she meets Alima (Pegah Ferydoni), who finally asks her the right questions.To Alima, this place means nothing. The constant paddling, the tranquility of nature and the lack of mobile reception are just annoying to her. Kerstin, who is as stoic as she is vulnerable, is a welcome change, so the two different women continue their journey together. But little by little, Kerstin's past creeps in on the lake district: Sören (Niklas Wetzel), Thomas (Karsten Antonio Mielke) and Nina (Milena Dreißig) finally challenge her seclusion.
