Synopsis
BASILIO returns home after many years only to find that his home at the foot of the mountains has been consumed by the ruinous passage of time. Only his mother, INÉS, remains, waiting for him out of love. Separated by violence while alive, and realizing that their reunion is due only to the fact that they are now dead, they decide to set off in search of BASILIO'S missing father.
Mother and son, now ghosts, embark on a physical and spiritual journey through a war-torn world of devastated villages, abandoned fields, rivers turned into cemeteries, and countless stories of pain and death. In fact, BASILIO, who over the course of his life became a savage criminal, is responsible for the devastation they encounter and is forced to relive the horrific acts he committed, this time burdened with the body of his crippled mother.
In the place where God inhabits the silences, they witness how war destroys both body and spirit. Struggling to recognize each other among the bleak surroundings, they begin to wonder if anything still binds them. This reflection leads to an attempt to repair their fragile ties, reconstructing their family history and their history of violence, in order to struggle on through a terrible world where all hope seems to have vanished.
This is no easy task, especially since BASILIO, feeling powerless to make amends for his past, is increasingly burdened by guilt after INÉS refuses to leave him behind in the horrific place that reflects his spirit and his actions while alive. In his attempts to reunite his parents, Basilio begins to accept responsibility for his actions and this change sweeps the entire family into a maelstrom of doubt and suffering and forces them to make enormous sacrifices to achieve the redemption they seek.
