A young waitress welcomes her husband home to the small South African town of Riviersonderend after his four-year jail sentence. At first it appears that her plans for a new life together have finally been realized. But when a farmer’s wife and sons are brutally slaughtered at a nearby farm, the young waitress and the widowed farmer start gravitating toward one another. They form an unlikely bond, fueled by mutual anger, pain and loneliness that ultimately results in more violence and bloodshed.
