Synopsis

Mara, a 24-year-old girl, moves to the capital with her father after the death of her mother. Her goal is to be a professional swimmer and she takes the entrance test to train with the Olympic Champion. The large scar on the trainer's leg and the presence of a mysterious spider distract Mara and she is disqualified. While walking sadly on the beach, he hears the screams of a woman drowning. Without hesitation, he swims towards her and is surprised when he arrives, because there is nothing but water. The sudden visit of Inés - her mother's sister - means for Mara a discomfort that will become unbearable. But the news of her acceptance into Laura Martínez's team keeps her excited. In one of the first training sessions, Laura poses a demanding exercise in which Mara ends up almost drowning. Laura assists her and offers, with ulterior motives, to take her home. The meeting culminates in a dock where Laura tells Mara about her scar and the accident that prevented her from swimming, and in a moment of connection they kiss. In the qualifiers Mara obtains a low score that does not allow her to enter the Tournament directly. Disappointed Laura distances herself from her. Mara, having deposited all her motivation in Laura, finds herself lost and stops going. Her neighbor, Juan, introduces her to the world of partying and drugs, just what she needed to escape. Still Mara comes back and shows her great potential reaching a record score and Laura regains her enthusiasm for training her. In the process they get closer and begin to share much more. Mara finds in Laura's house the home that her house is no longer since she heard her father and Ines having sex. One morning Laura tells Mara that she was lucky and entered the Championship. Everything seems to be perfect but that same night, in a sexual game, Mara begins to hang Laura and everything gets out of hand. Laura throws her out of her house and angrily Mara kicks a flowerpot hurting her foot. On the way to Juan's house he hears once more the strangled cry of a woman in the sea, but this time he makes out a clear silhouette: it is Laura. Days before the competition, Laura decides to leave Mara out of the Tournament due to her serious foot injury. After training, congratulate another of the swimmers. With ulterior motives, as he did with Mara, he invites her for a beer. Mara listens. Before the meeting, Laura is left alone in the pool swimming and drinking alcohol. The pool lights go out. Laura gets scared and something plunges her into the water. On the wall you can see the shadow of a large spider. Laura floats dead. On the day of the competition, taking her team against each other, Mara decides to compete the same. He wins the Gold Medal. The next day on the dock he reads in the newspaper about his great victory and about the tragic death of Laura Martinez. Talk about suspected suicide, alcoholism, and depression. Naked Mara enters the water. Out to sea she stops and turns to see herself on shore.
