Michele Anacondia is a small-time criminal on the fringes of the Apulian mafia, whose wife pushes him to want more. Their only son dies in an ambush and Michele, for personal revenge, kills half of a rival gang. The boss appreciates his courage: from 'picciotto' he is promoted to 'sacristan' and when the enemies set fire to his residence, he takes refuge with Michele and his wife, who urges her husband to get rid of the boss to take his place. Michele slits the godfather's throat: a bestial act that in turn leads him to the command of the 'Sacra Corona'. The couple moves to an imperial villa where Michele continues to lead and where his damnation erupts: the thirst for blood is not quenched and he plunges into madness. That irresistible rise leads to a ruinous fall.
