Synopsis
Night. A New England wood. A lone car sits parked on a bridge overlooking a river. Two teens exit dressed in prom attire. It’s the 1960s. A young, insecure man, JIM, prepares to propose. Cut to modern day, Jim, now in his 70s, buys flowers for his wife. She’s at home showering. The front door pushes open slowly, the shower running in the other room. Punch back to the 60s. Young Jim’s insecurity almost gets the best of him, but when she sees what he’s doing and urges him on, he proposes. She says yes! Modern day. Jim collapses over his high-school sweetheart, who is now bloodily mutilated on the bathroom floor.
The police arrive. DETECTIVE (intentionally nameless) examines the carnage. She’s seen this before: her own mother a victim last year. Jim overhears her assessment. “Wait…the killer’s not…human??” But before he can learn more, he is ushered away to a motel where he will be safe. A few hours later, however, Jim realizes he left his phone back at the house. Upon returning, he discovers a mysterious ring on his living room floor. “What’s this?” No time to find out! THE CREATURE IS HERE!!
Jim narrowly escapes with the help of a rebellious, teenage girl named MEGAN. She’s looking for her friend. She’s been missing for weeks and the police have seemed to have forgotten her. Perhaps the creature has taken her… She pleads for Jim’s help. But he’s just an old man. What could he possibly do?
He reports the ring to the Detective who ties it to a missing father and his teenage girl. “Megan’s friend! Maybe the creature does have her…” Detective lashes out at Jim for ruining her investigation. “Re-entering a crime scene??” XANDER, a charismatic reporter, tries to comfort Jim. He accuses CHIEF RAMIREZ for letting Detective handle a case she’s so close to. She’s losing it. “A creature? Bullshit! It’s just a psychopath dressed up trying to scare people and make a name for himself…” He admonishes Jim to go back to the motel and leave catching the killer to the professionals. Dejected and cast aside, Jim returns. It’s true. He’s only made things worse. He always does.
But Jim soon realizes he isn’t alone at the motel either! After narrowly surviving a second attack, Jim takes refuge with a friendly newlywed couple, BEETLE, an ambitious crime scene photographer, and his very pregnant (and perfectionist) wife ROBERTA. Despite their hospitality, Jim senses something is very off in this household…
But there’s no time to find out why…THE CREATURE HAS FOUND HIM! And this time, Jim doesn’t escape. Trapped inside his car with the creature bearing down on him, he hears it whisper, ”Drive…”
Suddenly, everything is flipped on its head. When he learns a dark secret about the creature’s origins, Jim realizes he may be the only one able to stop the bloodshed. He’ll have to get over his insecurities and step up like he’s never done before in order to see through the lies of those he trusted, bring justice to his wife, and truly stand among THE REMEMBERED.
