Aine is an artistically inclined 15yo secondary school girl from the "wrong side of the tracks". She lives in Portrush, Northern Ireland with her mother Margaret who works as a cleaner for a local office and her grandmother Agnes who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

When we meet Aine she has pursued an older boy Matt who everyone calls the King of Cool because of his car and persona. He is also the boyfriend of one of Aine’s friends Corinna. After a night at party where she went further than she ever intended trying to impress Matt, she has found herself pregnant.

Aine longs for adventure, sophistication, and opportunity, which leads her to the guidance of her liberal drama teacher Ellie, who when confronted with her pregnancy encourages her to consider an Abortion, which has to be in England due to the current laws in Northern Ireland. Aine feels pressure increasing as her mother has lost her cleaning job and her grandmother has worked out she’s pregnant and feels conflicted about not telling Aine’s mother.
