Birdland is an intimate and moving film about a daughter and a mother in a trailer park on the outskirts of a city. At the heart of the film is Skye, Joy's 8-year-old tough daughter. Skye wants so badly to be a parent that she copies everything from her mother to become the woman her mother is in one day. In addition, Birdland tells a story about living and parenting in freedom and the boundaries Skye pushes in it. While not a feminist pamphlet, Birdland is an honest paean to women and a timely tale about breaking taboos on typical women's topics.
