In a dystopian world where water, food, and hope are scarce, the arrival of the hippopotamus Zafari at a small zoo nestled between two buildings of differing social classes exposes the polarized relationship between neighbors Edgar and Alí. Edgar and Ana, residents of a decaying middle-class building, struggle to maintain their privileges, now limited to a swimming pool. When Alí and his neighbors demand access to the pool, Edgar confronts him with the little power he has left, while their teenage children form unexpected friendships during their time by the pool. Humor and suspense accompany Ana in her daily routine as she seeks solutions to life's hardships, until increasingly horrified by her surroundings, she finally manages to escape.
