1300AD in Florence Italy, a battle for the heartsand minds of society raged between twogroups. The White Guelphs and Black Guelphs. The Black Guelphs supported the Papacy'sinfluence on the economic welfare of theFlorentine people. Hundreds of years later inIreland during the aftermath of the biggestsexual abuse scandal in the history of the State. They did it again...Canto is thirty years old, actively dealing drugs whilesuffering from mental health issues when his girlfriend Leah, kicks him out. Leah sick of his antics and his criminal lifestyletries to shield her daughter Rachel from Canto's negativeinfluence. Canto is forced to turn to the streets for help as healways has done. Dan, Canto's father comes back to the areaand tries to reconnect with Canto, who outright rejects himfor abandoning him when he was a child.Dan then begins to become somewhat of a surrogate fatherto Virgil who he meets outside a derelict industrial schoolwhere Dan is rough sleeping. Virgil lives alone with hismother Beatrice on a barge. Dan and Beatrice becomeentangled romantically, two addicts seeing both their ownreflections in one another and internal motivation to findpeace. Canto's drug debts to a local enforcer are piling upand a game of cat and mouse ensues, survival hangs in thebalance. This film is inspired by Dante's Inferno and the seventhterrace of lust. The symbolism of unresolved sexualisedtrauma permeates down through the generations and flowsdeep within the psyche.A single act of violence perpetuates another and the originalsin, a case of childhood clerical sex abuse, creates a dominoeffect where the fear of intimacy and human connection ishanded down by father to son. The seventh terrace ofDante's inferno will only free the suffering soul when theyare brave enough to let go of fear, lust and their ego. One isjust to speak with sincerity and integrity, allowing honesty topass from one's lips to offer compassion to another's ear. This simple act of humanity casts outthe inner demons, but conversely whatisn't said also becomes the root of anever-ending and self-perpetuatingcycle of intergenerational despair. Theorigins of such long forgotten, whatisn't said ultimately becomes thesymptom...
