Synopsis

Again, the story unfolds around the two Swabian villages Ober- and Unterrieslingen (Upper and Lower Rieslingen). Having successfully battled and conquered the foreign enemy in the story, DIE KIRCHE BLEIBT IM DORF (THE CHURCH STAYS IN THE VILLAGE), one might assume that peace, at last, has returned and the villages are back to their usual Swabian village routine. Far from it. An abyss lurks behind every happy end. Behind every glamorous wedding: a painful plunge into reality. Behind every lottery jackpot: bankruptcy.
Klara Roßbauer, born Häberle, highly pregnant with her second child, is totally cheesed off by her life with her husband Peter on his parents’ farm. She is fed up with dancing to her mother-in-law’s strict tune and abruptly decides to move back in with her father and sisters.
Christine Häberle, who thought she had found true love with the Robert Redford look-alike, is bored to hell by her hero. She wants nothing more than to escape from the confinements of the village and move away.
Maria Häberle has split up with Karl Roßbauer and has been suffering from a narcissistic relationship disorder ever since.
With these private problems, our heroes are about to sail into a new crisis: The roof of the church was severely damaged during transportation and crashes down one Sunday onto the priest and his congregation. Priest Schäuble, who conscientiously collected donations for the maintenance of the church, has to admit that he spent all the money during a couple of his worst alcoholic phases. He is terribly ashamed and falls into a severe depression leaving the villagers to face the predicament of being without a Priest or a church.
Good advice is hard to get. How to generate all that money? How comfort the Priest who constantly wants to kill himself? Local farmer Rolf refuses the loan application: „I’ll never see the money again!“ A feeling of helplessness comes over the villagers.
The solution comes from “abroad”. In a newspaper, Christine comes across an advertisement for an orchestra competition in Hamburg. The villages each have their own competing bands.
A fusion of the two bands would provide an orchestra. But many obstacles have to be overcome before the villages are able to reach an agreement and the new orchestra is able to get on the same tour bus to Hamburg. A classical road movie ensues, with all conceivable difficulties.
