“Great World” starts off with the story protagonist, Ah Min, a pretty 23 year-old girl. As she witnesses movers emptying her grandmother’s old photo studio, Brilliant Pearl Photo Studio. Ah Min discovers photos of some old customers – it must be those who had forgotten to collect them after the photos were developed. She embarks on a journey in search for these old customers, first stop at old Ah Meng, who brings Ah Min into the world of the old Great World.. Ah Meng, Ah Boo, Mei Juan and Mei Gui all grew up in the legendary Singapore amusement park Great World. Four stories took place from 1940s to 1970s, each detailing different lives of these folks who once lived there. Their life stories leave behind traces in the famous ghost train, the flamingo night club and Chinese restaurant Wing Choon Yuen where all happiness gathered. Ending off in the modern day, Ah Min convinces her mother not to close down Brilliant Pearl Photo Studio, as it is a symbol of her grandmother’s hardship, and most importantly, it holds fond memories of those who once lived through the times.
