Eileen is an ex alcoholic and mother of two children, who are both about to fly the nest. Summer stretches out in front of the family who, except for Eileen, have plans to go abroad.. to a festival.. to their dad’s wedding… A new relationship suddenly comes into her life, and briefly she blooms. However Bill the new boyfriend has problems.. a pot smoking ex cricketer whose addictions ruined a potential sporting career. Their fling opens the door to insecurity and paranoia for Eileen, around her own daughter and one day under the guise of celebrating her new “love” she has a drink. Once she starts she doesn’t stop. Despite her son threatening to leave home and not sit the exams he has worked so hard for, she continues to drink until she ends up isolated, humiliated and arrested. Overnight in a police cell she vows to stop and the next day sets out to find her children at a music festival. There is a reconciliation of sorts with her son and daughter but a shadow looms over her son, who was, at the beginning of the film, sunny and full of promise and is now a different more cynical person. The film treads a constant line between darkness and humour as it moves from its beginning in a sedate suburban cricket club to its conclusion at a music festival. Written and directed by Finola Geraghty, the film was inspired by the work of people like John Cassavetes and Alan Clarke and films like Nashville, Nil by Mouth and Little Miss Sunshine.
