Afghan journalist Osman (Dominic Rains) works as a helper for Western reporters reporting on the war in his homeland. When he has to leave Afghanistan, he ends up in a northern California town, where he lives a modest existence. He arrives at the local Sheriff Gloria (Melissa Leo), the mother of a friendly reporter, and works for the small local newspaper. While exploring his new home, he meets the windy Lindsay (James Franco) and the actress Sandra (Rachel Brosnahan) - and finally stumbles into a mysterious murder case.
