Devastated by syphilis and having lost the love of her life she has reinvented herself as a literary sensation. Blixen is best known for Out of Africa (1985), an account of her life while living in Kenya which was brought to the screen by Sydney Pollack in 1985 and won 7 Academy Awards. Bille August is the director behind the Oscar winning film Pelle the Conqueror (1987) and House of Spirits (1993), starring Meryl Streep. Recently Bille directed the period drama A Fortunate Man (2018).
