From her empty nest in Santo Domingo, Dominique awaits the birth of her first grandchild abroad and longs for it to be a girl. When Carmen, her maid, disappears without warning and leaves behind her 7-year-old granddaughter, Dominique takes charge of the child. While facing opposition from her family, Dominique questions her own priorities.
