THE RIOT tells the story of the struggle againstoppression in the mining town of Sulitjelma, calledSulis, at the beginning of the 20th century. Konrad andthe suppressed workers stand together in the revoltagainst the mining company and its ruthless leaderWennstrøm. The film deals with actual incidents atNorway’s second largest workplace, where the miningcompany had all the power and where the workersstruggled under inhuman conditions in the dangerousand dark mines. This was the Wild West of the Nordiccountries. Oppression, slave labor and the brutalityof capitalism ended with a revolt that created theNordic model and the modern society we see today inScandinavia.
