Synopsis
Bold, quick witted and fiery SOPHIE MONTGOMERY was left alone on the altar by her fiancé on her wedding day 4 years ago on Christmas Eve. Devastated, she took her honeymoon trip by herself and wrote an honest blog post about her experience. Her post went viral and spawned her solo female travel blogging career and her very popular blog “Sophies Solo Travels.” Having not been home for Christmas since that fateful day, Sophie writes her annual “Runaway from Christmas” blog which chronicles her cynical stance on Christmas while she travels solo to new destinations. Days before she is about to leave for new destination she received call from her sister MAGGIE alerting her that their mother has taken a tumble trying to hang Christmas lights on the house and injured her leg. Maggie pleads for Sophie to come home to help with the family restaurant’s annual charity event, now that her mother is no longer up to the task.
Sophie reluctantly agrees to come home and help prepare the event but will fly out on Christmas Eve so not to miss her trip and deadline for the new article. Upon arriving to Willowbrook she discovers that she will work on the event with the town’s pediatrician, the sensible & good natured Dr FINN MILLER. Finn has been helping run the event with her mother over the last 3 years.
Sophie and Finn butt heads from the start. Finn’s positive and festive charms are no match for Sophie’s cynicism when it comes to Christmas. As they work together Sophie wants to “spice up” the event with innovations, while Finn wants to uphold the traditions that the town loves and expects from the event. At one point Sophie has an idea to write about her charming hometown and the annoyingly festive “Mr. Christmas” she just met. As they work their way through the checklist for the charity, our duo is taken on a series of festive events, from sledding to gingerbread house making, to the towns annual Christmas carol competition.
But, while spending time with Finn, Sophie’s layers begin to peel away and the love she once had for Christmas is rekindled in her heart. Finn, unwilling to try new things, learns to take hold of his own life and feels a fire ignited within him to start his own adventure.
It’s the day of the event & having almost kissed the night before Sophie and Finn are ready to confess the feelings that have grown over the course of their time together. Just then Finn discovers that he, in fact, may have been the source material for Sophies “Mr. Christmas” article. Hurt and shocked, Finn cannot wait for Sophie to leave town. It seems like all hope is lost for our couple. Realizing how wrong she may have been toward Finn and her entire attitude toward Christmas, Sophie does not publish the article but instead writes candidly about what she truly feels in her heart, that her love for Christmas has been restored. Reunited, we find Finn and Sophie at the dazzling night of the event. Ready to take on any adventure together with one requirement, that they will always, always come home for Christmas.
