In the 1990s Mekong Delta, Mrs. Le and daughter Nhung depend on each other. Mrs. Le retrieves bodies in rivers after her husband's death, supporting Nhung in fourth grade. When Nhung finds a doll by Ma Da, a malevolent spirit haunts her, Mrs. Le dismisses it until Nhung is captured, forcing Mrs. Le into a desperate battle to save her only child.
