It’s the height of summer in the valley town of Montague. After years of suffering the effects of the crop-destroying burrow moth, farmers finally celebrate an abundant season. ROBIN (30) works overtime at the fruit packing house to support herself and her teenage sister. When she finds a strange bug in a peach, her boss DENNIS (45) tells her to keep quiet. Robin’s complicity weighs on her. It’s personal, too: she’s recently discovered that she is pregnant from a brief affair with Dennis at the beginning of the summer. Robin decides to investigate the bug on her own. Her research reveals a frightening possibility: the bug fits the description of a highly invasive species, long believed extinct. Robin goes against Dennis’ orders and blows the whistle.
