At Christine's funeral, a notary suddenly appears with a letter stating that Christine wanted to be buried in Wettelen, which is not near by. Her bewildered husband and children decide to respect this inexplicable last wish, and to do so according to tradition, walking behind the hearse. By the time Christine’s final resting place is reached, all family ties have been shaken up.
