“My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old Frances Price (Michelle Pfeiffer), whose beauty and eccentricity have enthralled Manhattan fordecades, but things don't go as planned for Frances. Her husband Franklin hasbeen dead for 20 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last ofher possessions and resolves to live out her final days anonymously in a modestapartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm (LucasHedges) and 'Small Frank' the family cat. But far from getting away from it all,people just can't seem to leave Frances alone. The apartment becomes filled withpeople from her old life and added to, by those from her new one. As ever, Franceshosts an imperfect situation with style, as she has always done in her role as adevoted wife and mother. Malcolm will never have a job, and Franklin appearssomehow to have morphed into Small Frank (Tracy Letts) and as a cat he is a loteasier to deal with.
