Born to dance, Neneh is a 12-year-old black girl who dreams of being admitted to the prestigious ballet school at the Opéra de Paris. Her goal is to become “danseuse étoile” (prima ballerina) and follow in the footsteps of her idol, Marianne Belage.The jury members are all impressed by Neneh’s audition. Yet despite Neneh’s undeniable talent, some of them, including Marianne, feel that her profile does not correspond to the school’s strict, longstanding norms.But the managing director of the school has the upper hand, and Neneh is admitted.Hardworking and passionate, Neneh goes all out to succeed. But she is forced to confront not only the envy of the other students but also the defiance of Marianne, keeper of the flame of tradition…and bearer of a secret that connects her to the young ballerina.
