Synopsis

The “Glass Bay” is a beautiful stretch of ocean affectionately nicknamed “The Unspoiled Sea.” But against this summer backdrop of beach and fireworks, a mystery arises that just might be better left unsolved. Manabu Yukawa finds himself invited to a public meeting in the area held by a development company that aims to explain their plans to mine the ocean floor for mineral resources. Yukawa checks into a traditional Japanese inn called the “Green Cliffs Lodge” where he encounters Kyohei, a young boy who is spending summer at the inn run by his aunt and her family.
The morning after Yukawa arrives, the body of a man who has died an unnatural death is found on the levee of a nearby port. The victim, Tsukahara, was another guest at the inn, which soon has the town speculating: “Was it an accident or a murder?”
It also becomes evident that all the members of the inn including Kyohei are entangled in the incident, from the aunt and husband who consider closing the inn because of dwindling tourism to their only daughter, Narumi, who has become something of an environmental activist. Gradually, a complex back story to the incident begins floating to the surface begging the question of why Tsukahara came to this town. In his inimitable fashion, Yukawa applies unmatched wits to discover what the police cannot: the naked truth.
