Synopsis

Aiko Aikawa (Riho Yoshioka) is a rookie wedding planner at All Happiness, Inc. Aiko loves her job and is deeply devoted to support her clients to realize their dream weddings. Though well intentioned, her overzealous nature, coupled with hopeless clumsiness not only often gets her in trouble but also her bosses and colleagues around her.

Having been raised by wholesome and nurturing parents, who run a fishing boat rental shop in Yokohama, Aiko seems unfazed by these mishaps and continues to captivate those who are around her with her irresistible charm.

One day, through a consultation session, Aiko meets a distressed mother whose engaged daughter, Reika, refuses to have a wedding ceremony.

As she observes a resigned mother on her way out of a consultation, Aiko can not help but promise the mother her daughter’s wedding ceremony by saying: “Just leave it to me! I will make it happen!”

Aiko, however, faces a very stubborn and resilient Reika who will not give in despite Aiko’s numerous visits and pleas. It’s later revealed that Reika’s resistance has something to do with Reika’s father, Yasuo.

The story revolves around a rookie wedding planner Aiko with her unfiltered passion and her work colleagues (a catering manager, a cameraman, a chef, a wardrobe person, etc.) as well as her supportive parents.

The story eventually takes an unexpected turn to everyone’s surprise with the help from Aiko's caring family. Will the wedding ever take place?

A directorial debut by Shozo Katashima, who served as the assistant director of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Waterboys (2001)”, “Swing Girls(2004)” and “Lady Maiko (2014)”.

“Happy Wedding” captures the in-depth reality of the behind-the-scenes of the bridal industries sprinkled with a good amount of comedic touch and human sensibilities.

This film makes you believe in the magic of a wedding ceremony.
