Synopsis

After the brutal assassination of his colleague, Hector Celestin, a brilliant lawyer at the
Haitian Ministry of Finance is forced into exile with his entire family, hoping to leave behind
the Duvalier dictatorship’s spiral of violence. In the winter of 1974, the Celestin close-knit
family settles in between Black and Spanish Harlem, NYC. Part coming of age, part political
thriller, the film is a drama which spans over 12 years, about family, love, and sacrifice,
exploring politics under a repressive regime, immigrant status in America, and the fissures
that personal secrets can cause to the fabric that holds it together.
