Synopsis

Berlin, late 19th century. Alexander Hoffmann (Leonard Scheicher) is an ambitious doctoral student in ethnology at Friedrich Wilhelm University. When, as part of the "German Colonial Exhibition", a delegation of Ovaherero and Nama from "German Southwest Africa" visits Berlin, Hoffmann meets the group's interpreter, Kezia Kambazembi (Girley Charlene Jazama). Hoffmann develops an intense interest in the Ovaherero and the Nama - and after meetings and discussions with them, he opposes the current evolutionary racial theory. Shortly thereafter, the revolt of the Ovaherero and Nama in the colony "German South West Africa" leads to war with the Germans. Hoffmann travels around the country under the protection of the imperial army and collects abandoned artifacts and art objects for the ethnological museum in Berlin. But in reality, he continues to search for evidence of his thesis - and of Kezia. On the spot, Hoffmann witnesses the execution of the extermination order by inhumanly harsh German soldiers. But the ethnologist also crosses moral boundaries when he agrees to send his Berlin professor (Peter Simonischek), skulls and skeletons of dead Hereros for research purposes ...
