Synopsis

BANDITS is a story about youth and adulthood, dreams and reality, and the drama that unfolds when they collide. When we meet Kyle, he’s innocent, cheeky, and full of child-like mischief as he aims a piss filled water gun at a bully, imagining himself to be a cowboy like he’s seen in all the westerns he loves to watch. His mother Maggie on the other hand, broken down by a system that seems to benefit very few, sits in a car with an acquaintance she barely knows, buying into a plan, a ‘job’ that she believes might help carve out a better life for herself and Kyle. The story unfolds as we follow Kyle and Maggie as they pick up items for the job she has agreed to do. From a costume shop where she steals a boiler suit, to a friend’s flat to pick up a motorbike helmet, before we watch them spend another dangerous night in the temporary accommodation that hasn’t been temporary at all (they’ve been stuck there for 6 months). The next day Maggie takes Kyle with her to the job – which unbeknown to him, is an armed robbery… As things start to go wrong, and Kyle becomes involved, it becomes clear that the idea of being a cowboy is scarier than he could have ever imagined.
